What Happened to Fair Trade?
We are all aware that businesses are raking in as much money as they can these days.
In the United Kingdom we are now planning to bring in what is called Smart Meters to give at a glance checks on utility meters so that customers can see what they have used and are going to pay on their Bill in advance rather than get a surprise when the Bill drops on the mat.
This is most welcome as many do not know that meter charges are at the whim of the Utility company and altered electronically whenever they please.
My gas and electric charges were very high being some 200 pounds per month between both during the winter. When I complained and compared with a friend their charges were 25 pounds per month for gas and electric for similar size home and usage.
The utility company said my Bill was correct. Upon insisting their was a problem I was told that utilities did not have a uniform charge and as I lived in an up market zone the charges per unit were set higher than in a poorer zone.
Can someone explain how the charge for gas and electric is based on where you live rather than a set charge for standard use and cost thereof?
Surely this is address lottery gone mad.
