What is Happening to Us?
Are we making the credit crunch even worse?
Every single one of us must be feeling the effects of the credit crunch, and I don’ think it’s down to just lack of money. We seem to have lost our way at coping with things.
When I go into a shop now, the young assistant doesn’t really care whether I buy or not, and if I want to change something, you can tell by her face, I’m just a nuisance. Customer service has gone,we are no longer cherished as if their job depends on it, but it does. I’m not surprised that people are now turning to buying on line.
We hear that many people cannot get jobs, so you would expect the ones that have one to make sure they keep it, but that often doesn’t happen. We recently needed the services of an electrician. The first one promised to come, but did not, and offered no explanation as to why. He had already started the job, so it had to be finished. After several vague promises to return we finally gave up on him, and someone we knew recommended another one. He did come as promised, and we told him how we had been let down, and he sympathised, and said he couldn’t understand why that had happened. We explained that we always treat our workers with respect, offer them tea and coffee, and they always get paid.
He came twice, but then mysteriously disappeared, and couldn’t be contacted, even by the friend who recommended him. The next one was advertising in the ‘phone book. He came only once, and when we ‘phoned up to see when he would come again, he was in the bath, and would ring later. It seems like he must have drowned, no further word from him either.
We did eventually get the job done, but it took over 6 months, and if times are so hard, why don’t these people bother themselves to work properly and be reliable? The same goes for deliveries.
They never come when they should, and they rarely let you know if they are not coming. You are expected to be at home all day in the hopes that your order might actually arrive. Surely, in these difficult times, we should be more professional and try harder in our daily life. Have we all become so apathetic and sorry for ourselves that we just aren’t going to bother any more.? Life is more of a challenge now, so we should rise to it, otherwise it will take even longer to get out of this recession.
