Witness Protection – a Suggestion to Save Taxpayer’s Monies
Many people are afraid to come and testify before the court. That is because they are afraid that they would be killed, or troubled, or any of their family members may be harmed. But there is a very simple way out.
Here is a suggestion to save the lives of witnesses, and get the criminal punished.
If we choose to give the burden of ensuring the safety of the witness and his or her families to the accused, we would be ensuring that witness is kept alive and not harmed in any way. If any of these people are harmed, the accused would be declared as guilty without trial.
Likewise, the witness should not be thrown out of job if he or she testifies against the practices in the organization. As of now, lack of security is the cause for witnesses shying from testifying. While police protection is desired and offered, it is not foolproof. But if accused were afraid of any mishap, then it is unlikely that he or she would let the witness or any of his or her family members come to any harm. I do think that such changes to law would help in reducing the government’s expenses, and thereby save taxpayer’s monies. Government would not have to spend on manpower for ensuring the security of such witnesses or their families.
