A Project on Pythagoras
A complete project on pythagoras – including; his biography, the explination of his theorem and some questions using it.
Pythagoras was born in Corton a city in Samos , one of the Greek islands, around 569 B.C. he made a lot of journeys Egypt and the east. He wanted harmony of the soul, witch according to him could be created by knowledge of numbers. According to his studies this controlled the universe. He also loved music. He was a well practiced Lyra-player.
Around 530 B.C. he started a school in Cortana, witch also had departments in other South-Italian cities. Pythagoras and his followers have had a important influence on social and political life. But there were also people that didn’t support Pythagoras and his followers; towards the end of his life Pythagoras had to leave Corton and some decennia later there was a big protest against all of his followers.
Pythagoras’s theorem

The Pythagoras theorem is probably the best known mathematical theorem.
Basically it states that the two short side, of a right angled triangle, squared are equal to the long side squared (A.K.A. the hypotenuse).

this can be proved like this, a=4 and b=3. So b²+a²= 25cm². That is the Pythagoras theorem.
If you want to know the length of the long side you simply take the square root of the answer. In this case ?25cm² = 5cm.
Question 1
Calculate the area of the squares. Using the Pythagoras theorem. If it is not possible notate N.A.

Question 2
• calculate line D.
• calculate line E.
• calculate line F.
•

Question 3
Tim has built a shed to store the salt for his swimming pool.
• He wants to know how many liters of salt can go into the shed. But he also wants enough space left for his bike, he will need 1m³ for the bike.
• Tim also has a big pole that is used for cleaning the swimming pool it is 3.8m long will it fit in the shed?

Answers
Question 1
A 9cm²+16cm²=25cm²
B 61cm²-36cm²=25cm²
C n/a
Question 2
A ?(5² – 3.5²) = 3.57
B ?(4.5² – 2.5²) = 5.34
C N/A
D 3.5 X 3.57 = 12.5
Question 3
A 1.2 X 2 = 2.4 ÷ 2 = 1.2m³
2 X 2.3 = 4.6m³
1.2m³ + 4.6m³ = 5.8m³
5.8m³ – 1.0m³ = 4.8m³
B ? (3.5² + 2²) = 4.03m
