After School Jobs
Essay on after school jobs for teens.
“Sweetie, have you finished your homework yet? It’s time to go!” my mom yelled from the front door, “we are waiting in the car!” It seems like I never get a break, I never get a time out or a little rest. I know for a fact that I’m not the only teenager who feels this way. Our lives are like a never ending roller coaster with lots of loops and sharp turns. With our lives so busy how in the world are you supposed to fit an after school job in? We can’t! I don’t think it would be a good idea for students and teens to take up after school jobs. There are a number of reasons but a few are; the stress of it all could cause health problems, we have other responsibilities and priorities, and we simply do not have the time. We should not be forced by our parents to get after school jobs.
Furthermore, we teenagers just don’t have a ton of time. Its hard enough trying to balance the time we do have between homework and extra curricular actives. Trying to squeeze in one more thing would be ridiculous. On a normal day, I go straight from school to swim, and that lasts an hour and a half, then I go home and start on my homework. Sometimes it gets really hard because every teacher assigns an hour of homework a night, just for their class. Since I have six classes that give homework, I am sitting doing homework for what seems like forever. There are only twenty four hours in a day. If we go through and find out where we spend our hours, I figured I spend at least six hours on homework. I spend another seven at school, plus thirty minutes to get there and get home. Two hours at swim practice, and I usually get seven to eight hours of sleep a night. That leaves me with one and a half hours left that I’m not doing something, but I also didn’t count my meals, time with family, getting ready for the day in the morning, etc. With every hour of the day taken, it seems impossible to fit an after school job in. So if we did take up a job, it would start cutting into other hours, and effecting other areas of our lives, which brings me to the next point.
