After School Jobs
Essay on after school jobs for teens.
Second, as a teenager we have other responsibilities. Our main one at this time in our lives should be our school. One of my close friends is a straight A student, and is very involved in dancing. Since she is so high in dance, it costs quite a bit of money. Her parents thought it would be a smart idea to have her get an after school job to help pay for it. When she started working it started cutting hours off of her time for homework and dance. She was getting so far behind in school that she had to start skipping dance. She had missed so much dance that when it was time for the competition she couldn’t do it because she had missed to much and didn’t know the routine. Her grades had dropped, and she couldn’t even do her dance. As a student our main priority should be our school work. School is what helps us get ahead and get a good career for when we are older, and if we take a job now then it could interfere with our long time conditions. And having so much to do can also become very stressful and overwhelming.
Mostly, the main reason students should not get after school jobs is because it can cause stress. Stress can cause a lot of physical and mental health problems. A close family friend of my mom’s became really stressed over a problem in her marriage. She became so stressed and her body handled it in a way that it could. She frequently got stomach aches and was never feeling good. She went to the doctor and found out that she had a dieses called Ulcers. That’s were a small hole is formed in the small intestine. It is very painful and you have to live with it the rest of your life. Stress not only causes physical problems but also emotional and mental. Nine out of ten times people start smoking because they are in a stressful situation and don’t know how to handle it. It can causes people to go into depression, and that leads to thoughts of suicide. Or it can make you have bipolar. Stress is a very serious thing, and can end up killing you if you aren’t careful. In fact, it was proven in a recent student by professors at Cambridge University that people who live as stress-free as they possibly can, live to be six to seven years longer than someone who has been in stressful situations. With so much to do, people can easily get feeling of being overwhelmed. I think that overall, getting an after school job would create even more stress in a already stressful teenage life.
The opposing side may say, after school jobs teach kids responsibility and how to work. While this is true, it is also true that these principles and basic concepts should be taught by mothers and fathers in the home at a young age. If children are not being taught these principles while they are young, it will be even harder for them to learn them when they are older.
In conclusion, I think after school jobs would be a disaster! Not only do they take up time we don’t have, they can cause sever health problems related to stress, and we have other responsibilities and priorities as a student. So parents of any teenager, I strongly encourage you to not force your child to take up an after school job during the school year!
