Bangalore Engineering Colleges Review: Nmit (Nitte Meenakshi Institute of Technology)

Review on NMIT, Nitte Meenakshi Institute of Technology (VTU autonomous), Bangalore. Ratings, students’ opinons, hostels, placements, packages and more.

NMIT is a sister concern of NMAMIT engineering college in Mangalore, India. NMIT is located in Govindapura Gollahalli, 6m from Yelahanka on the outskirts of Bangalore. It is located about 3km off the road leading to the international airport. NMIT offers the following branches for undergraduate BE course [intake for each course]:

  • Electronics and Communication Engineering [120]
  • Computer Sciences and Engineering [120]
  • Electronics and Electrical Engineering [60]
  • Mechanical Engineering [120]
  • Information Science and Engineering [60]
  • Civil Engineering [60]

NMIT is a private engineering college, autonomous under VTU. This implies that while the college can have its own syllabus and question papers, the degree is still awarded by VTU.

Pros of NMIT:

1) Campus is beautiful. It is well outside the city limits, quiet and peaceful.

2) Infrastructure is excellent. Labs are well equipped, no sharing of labs between two or more branches or classes, as seen in other colleges.

3) Faculty presence is sound. Every department several experienced professors and assistant professors who are approachable and who will guide you in presenting off-campus research papers.

4) Excellent scope for research. One of the latest achievements of the college was to build an international standard satellite base station for the recently launched STUDSAT satellite.

5) Numerous workshops and seminars are held throughout the year which are an added advantage to undergraduate students.

6) College bus has 20+ routes covering all parts of Bangalore.

7) Hostels and food on campus are both pretty decent. Girls and boys hostel are both situated on campus.

 Cons of NMIT:

1) Placements are average. Standard IT companies visit the campus offering mediocre packages. Not many core companies visit and very few students get payment packages over 3.25 lpa.

2) Campus is remotely located, with a long diversion off the highway that is not walkable. BMTC plies only on the highway, taking a rickshaw on a daily basis is not economical but college bus can be relied upon, as a lot of students do. Commuting by your own vehicle will work out if you can brave the traffic on airport road and the chaos accompanying the mono rail construction taking place.

3) There are no PGs or even shops within a 3km radius of the college.

4) Crowd is fairly serious, not many fun activities take place on campus, except the annual college fest.

Overall, a decent college to join if you are planning on higher studies or want to get into the research field. Do not count on a great placement as most people pass out with the usual IT jobs.

NMIT rating: 3.25 / 5
