Cambridge: Harvard Tops Again, The Best Universities in World Rank

Harvard University may be America’s top-ranked national university, along with Princeton University, in U.S.News & World Report’s latest Best Colleges rankings, but a competitor across the pond is now stealing some of that thunder.

Harvard University can be classified at the National University of the United States, Princeton University, USA News & World Report latest ranking of top universities, but it is a competitor across the pond to steal some of that thunder.

For the second consecutive year, the University of Cambridge, United Kingdom of Harvard points to win the best universities in the United States World News was released today and based on data from the 2011 QS World University opinion. Powered by QS Quacquarelli Symonds, a leading global career and education network, the best score to show the world the best international universities in North and South America, Europe and Asia, and elsewhere.

Six different indicators were assessed List Top 400 universities around the world: academic reputation, a reputation as an employer, the relationship between teachers and students of international faculty ratio, the percentage of international students, and faculty appointments. The gulf between Cambridge and Harvard, was incredibly small – a difference of about 0.7 points in overall score – and can be more impressive because of Cambridge teacher-students.

Despite falling slightly behind Harvard University in the UK, U.S. schools have dominated the list of 400, with six U.S. institutions that appear in the top 10 (Harvard, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Yale University, the University of Chicago, the University of Pennsylvania and Columbia University). The greatest sign of a university is not American or British was at McGill University in Canada, at age 17. Range of Asia came to Hong Kong University (HKU), at 22.

An independent ranking of the 100 best universities in Asia, the dynamism of Asia, with China, South Korea and India are investing heavily in higher education to meet national and international students. This year, to reflect the uniqueness of the territory a different methodology from the top 400 world rankings were used as indicators of academic reputation in Asia and the revision of the employer in Asia.

Leaders of the pack came to Hong Kong, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and University of Hong Kong take the first and second places respectively. The distance between the two were very close – a difference of 0.2 points in overall score – with the research productivity HKUST gives you the advantage. Japan, whose economy is slowly recovering after the devastating earthquake and tsunami in March 2011, however, was dominant in the Asia qualifying with five schools in Japan in the 10s.

Meanwhile, China, the world’s largest source of foreign students in U.S. universities, is making headway with their own schools. Peking University and Tsinghua University were among the top 20 universities in Asia, very good indicators of academic reputation and the employer. India has not gone so well because of poor grades are the three main entrances to the India Institutes of Technology (IIT Kanpur, Delhi and Mumbai) at 36, 37 and 38, respectively.
