Childhood Obesity Can be Cured with Physical Education
Teens are losing weight with physical education.
Nutrition and wellness of children does not have to stop at just making gym classes the main target of childhood obesity. Lunch menus at school are not helping the situation, they could provide food that is healthy and tastes good. The items offered at lunch vary widely from school to school, but foods high in fat and sugar like chips and cookies are usually available. Some schools even allow fast-food vendors such as Taco Bell, Subway, Domino’s, and Pizza Hut to market their products in the school cafeteria. As part of its modest efforts to control consumption of unhealthful foods at school, the federal government has labeled certain foods, including soda pop, water ices, chewing gum, and some candies, as being of “minimal nutritional value” and has ruled that they cannot be sold in the cafeteria during school meals
In the end it all comes down to the decision that you make whether or not to be active, eat right, and stay healthy. Yes, you could say it’s the school’s fault for not providing enough classes for exercise and healthy living but being healthy is a life choice. “Winning is not a sometime thing; it’s an all time thing. You don’t win once in a while, you don’t do things right once in a while, you do them right all the time. Winning is a habit. Unfortunately, so is losing.” – Vince Lombardi. The same can be said about having a healthy lifestyle. Either you eat right and exercise all the time or you don’t. Unfortunately having an unhealthy lifestyle is addicting too. Once you become overweight it is hard to get back on track and start eating right and working out again. Someone very close to me once said that the things worth having in this world don’t come easy you have to work to succeed. So it is up to you to go out and clean up your act, get outside, quit playing video games, and work hard to earn that healthy lifestyle everyone deserves. This is not a matter of being fat or skinny, scrawny or muscular, but it is a matter of life and death. If you are healthy you will live longer, if you are overweight and obese you have a higher chance of having a heart attack or a stroke.
