Computers as a Technological Breakthrough: An Aid Towards Academic Teaching
An article that discusses the relevance of computer technology to education.
Technological inventions are no doubt, but a great contribution to humanity. One of these contributions is the use of computers and other gadgets that help people improve their lifestyles, the mode of living –business or personal. However, these devices that people believe them as assistance to their endeavor somehow mislead them due to technological misuse and abuse. In an academe for instance, the use of technology such as computers, play stations, and cellular phones causes the deterioration of education and the decline of values among youngsters. This issue of decaying values and weakening of education is being debated, but it is forced to be forgotten. The reason is simple. No one likes to study or focus on one’s attention to the problem. Indeed, many experts share this point that people must be adaptive to the new environment, new technology. They added that there is no problem with the technology, only that one may adapt change and one may blend in – embracing what technology offers especially to the field of education.
Technological inventions such as computers, laptop computers, tablets, and many others aid the people in one way or another. In the field of academe for example, these devices help teachers become productive and efficient. They perform their jobs well due to computers and other devices. They even use Xerox machine for document reproduction; they utilize computers for computing grades and inputting data; and they make use of mobile phones for communications. They also employ these devices to aid their teaching techniques and strategies. Above all, they embrace the benefits of these devices for these are miracles to enhance teaching.
However, even when these devices support the teaching needs of the teachers, problems occur due to its proper use. These machines or gadgets have been abused. One example is that computers are used of chatting or for browsing pornography. Other teachers may use them for playing games; examples are the games on the computer. For laptop computers, other teachers may use them inside the class and in the class hours even without any purpose. The abuse of its use grows much higher than expected since the cost of these devices goes down. Students overrun these gadgets. They use them without purpose as long as they need them. They never know that these materials may ruin their concentration and focus in their studies. They also resort to play counterstrike online games, to engage themselves in chatting or communicating electronically through social networking sites. They even forget the values being instructed by them by their teachers. They stop focusing their studies because they are hooked with them. Now, the challenge lies on the teachers. These teachers must design some teaching techniques to blend this technology to greater levels – a teaching performance plus one (TP + 1). If this idea explains the students’ study habit, then this technology will be used to motivate them.
On the contrary, these inventions are actually beneficial. If only one knows how to use them, greater improvements if not the greatest may result to satisfying remarks. For example, teachers may use computers to aid lectures. They may use PowerPoint to present subjects from the lessons for the day and create designs to make the slides more attractive. These ways to augment the teaching demonstrations are effective to motivate the students to learn well. Studies have shown that if proper use of this technological breakthrough can bring change to any academic community. It does not mean that teachers may always rely on slides and transitions of the PowerPoint but it means that these techniques vary the teaching strategy of the teachers to promote dynamicity of learning environment. Indeed, it encourages progress to the total academic performance of the students.
Finally, these inventions made by science and technology have presented two sides, the two side of the coins. However, people must understand each function and must promote its benefits to all. This part is clear. Technology helps if used in good terms and not to destroy.
