Crystal Clear Expectations

Winter dreams becomes a bundle of joy in human nature. It was February 2, 1957 in the midnight hour in Brooklyn, New York in the Bedford-Stuyvesant section during a fierce snowstorm. This is the story of Anthony Charles Blake, whose birth is about too take place, and become a uprising adult with lots of promise and expectations. An ambulance was summoned to 1330 Pacific Street, and my mother and I, which I was still in her womb was ready to give birth. We were taken to Kings County Hospital along with my grandparents.

Enroute, my mother went into labor. Once we arrived at the hospital, it was apparent, this baby is on it’s own time schedule, because I wasn’t supposed to be born until April. At approximately 1:30 am, I was born, however, then some bad news occurred. The doctors stated, “I was below weight, and would have to remain in the hospital for several days for observation. Matters got even more worse, I was suffering from malnutrition, yellow jaundice along with asthma, because my mother was smoking during her pregnancy. If this wasn’t news for telestar, doctors also concluded that death was imminent, and that I would only live to the age of 7. There was also a strong possibility, I would be placed in a foster home. My grandparents were there hearing all this news about their upcoming grandchild, and this is when they stepped in, and said, they will raise me until my mother got her feet. It was a disappointment for my grandparents to hear this news, but their heart said, “This is our first grandchild, and he is so cute, we will raise him ourselves, regardless of circumstances. My grandparents stated, “I will eat and sleep until my mother, Ms. Rose Becker was ready to take me.

My mother never get on her feet, and no she is not dead, but just never took the time to be part of my life. I was abused in mouthing as it would be weekends when I was spending time with my mother, I began to learn, my mother actually despised me. This was a time when she lived in Fort Greene projects, Halsey Street and Irvington, New Jersey. Each time, I was told, I will never amount to anything, however, my mother was actually talking about herself. As I graduated from high school, there was the blessing among thousands of graduates, and then it was on too college at CUNY MEDGAR EVERS COLLEGE AND CUNY HUNTER COLLEGE majoring in Mass Communications with emphasis in Business/Data Processing. I even made the Dean’s List. My grandparents were the one’s that sent me too college and emphasized higher education from the start. My grandfather led the foundation of typing, Vocabulary and business outlook since he was a college guy himself. I received business vitality from former Mr. Bob Crandall, former CEO of AMERICAN AIRLINES, INC., Mr. James L. Kerrigan, former CEO,

GREYHOUND CORPORATION, Mentor, Mr. Jerome Matthew Thielen, retired VICE PRESIDENT, GREYHOUND CORPORATION. I also received career aspirations motivation from Mr. Joe Black, Vice President-Special Markets also from GREYHOUND CORPORATION.

My grandparents are deceased, and I am quite sure, they are looking down at me, and saying, “Look at our work being accomplished, and what we established. It’s makes no difference in your situation, but you can overcome obstacles, and don’t let a brick wall become your blockage, but let it be your foundation to maneuver through them. It’s a challenge well spent, because look at what I accomplished. I am a freelance writer with thought, action, and not being transparent, but being open minded with my ideas, motivation, and my motivation in being your success in whatever you chose in life. It’s crystal clear with today’s hopes becoming tomorrow’s future. I want to thank the movie, “Precious” which encouraged me to tell my story, and for all individuals to be empowered in hearing my story.
