Cyber School: Common Myths

The myths are some common stereotypes about cyber school kids. The facts are an attempt to correct the stereotypes.

Myth: Kids in cyber school don’t get any social interaction.

Facts: Students in cyber school have many opportunities to go on field trips almost every month. They can also join sports teams in their town to get social interactions between other kids and them. Students are also required to talk with teachers through email, over the phone and in their virtual offices.

Myth: Cyber school is so easy; anyone could join it and get in A in every class.

Facts: Cyber school is actually quite challenging. Because you have more time to focus on your classes, the classes pack more learning into each lesson. While some kids in cyber school have high GPAs others have very low GPAs.

Myth: The only reason kids go to cyber school is because they don’t have any friends.

Facts: Some students enroll in cyber school because they have a hard time making friends. Others join because they need a lot of time to focus on a career or goal. Some join for religious reasons or because they want a greater challenge in their learning experience. Some have even joined because of conflicts with teachers.

Myth: Cyber school kids wouldn’t last 5 seconds in public school.

Facts: Most kids in cyber school went to public school for years until they joined cyber school.
