Defining “Adequate Yearly Progress”
In defining AYP, the state must do the following…
- Adopt the goal that all students will be proficient within 12 years (that is, by school year 2013-14).
- Determine the starting point based on school year 2001-02 achievement data.
- Set Intermediate goals of progress, with the first increase occurring within two years (that is, by school year 2004-05) and proceeding equal increments thereafter (in intervals of on more than three years) to reach 100 percent in 12 years.
- Establish annual measurable objectives – Which can remain the same for more than one year – for math and reading/language arts within the intermediate goals
- Establish at least one additional academic indicator, which for high schools must be graduation rate.
