Developing Pre-school in East Nusa Tenggara Indonesia

East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) is one of the poorest provinces in Indonesia. Socio-economic indicators is low compared with most other provinces in Indonesia. One of the worst sector was the sector of education.

East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) is one of the poorest provinces in Indonesia. Socio-economic indicators is low compared with most other provinces in Indonesia. One of the worst sector was the sector of education.

The Indonesian government has tried to provide assistance for improving the quality of education in the province. From foreign donors and NGOs are often engaged in activities in NTT. But the development of education in the province is still very slow.

One of education has been developed in pre-school education. Like other areas in Indonesia, usually children aged under six years of schooling in kindergarten. But the kindergarten school was too expensive for the rural population in the province because most households live below the poverty line.

Only about 14% of children aged 0-6 years to get an education pre-school. From the pre-school, approximately 68% of schools in kindergarten and 28% in Early Childhood Education (ECD). ECD is managed by rural communities. ECD is currently being developed to be more professional in early childhood education.
