Do Practice What You Preach?

You always hear or get advice very often from others. Once in a while you tend to give advice to others as well. The question is: Do you practice what you tell others to do or are you just giving lip service to make yourself look good.

A boy’s father was called up to meet the teacher in school. The teacher told the boy’s father that his son was always taking writing materials that belongs to other students. The problem was getting from  bad to worse as the boy’s classmates were always complaining to the teacher about it. The teacher had reprimanded him a few times but the boy still kept doing it.

The boy’s father in response to his son’s actions shrugged and said “I do not know where he got this habit from but I will have a heart to heart talk with my son. I shall advice him to stop doing this nonsense”.

Once they reached home, the boy’s father approached his son and said, “Son please do not take anymore things that do not belong to you.

“If you need any writing materials just let me know. There’s plenty of it at my work place. I can take some home and give it to you.”

I love this article, 2 weeks ago someone on Triond wrote and article saying that we need to read the article before making a comment, but in fact this person was guilty of doing the same thing on an article I wrote, he made a comments and it had nothing to do with the article. Outstanding post.

    LOL. A good joke.
People usually don’t know their own attitude. There an woman at my workplace (but different section), she always complains about nitty gritty things which don’t concern her, about staff abuse the company stuff, also when people drink coffee with sugar she will nag and say these people are ants for the high consumption of sugar, but when she makes tea for herself, she has to use 2 or 3 satchet of teabag just for one normal cup
    :)

Great! I would like to think that I do pratice what I preach, but am sure I must have slipped up like this a few times!

Love this! Forgive me, but I roll over my computer. Still it is so true that many preach great things, but do not practise it. I am also familiar with the topic. Don’t we all?

I know I’m guilty of ‘do as I say not do as I do’.
    Great article.

I agree. People learn and understand more than what they see, rather than what they hear. But I know I slipped few times as well (I am human) =)

Hilarious, but has a moral lesson. Role modeling is still the best way to teach.

    Brilliant.

    Action speaks louder than words.
We being mimics in all, so we copy what we see.
    monkey see monkey do :)
It is confusing when one says do this yet they are doing the opposite :)

I agree people are good to give advise but not for taking it. Kids do learn from what they see.

You presented this concept in such an easy to read way, it was fun to read as well presenting a serious message. I also loved the initial image.

Now that I have a child of my own I’m careful of what I say and do. There are times when I have to remind myself because I’ve gotten used to doing things the wrong way.

This is hilarious and so,so true. I try to practice what I preach and I preach what I practice, otherwise you have no credibility. It goes for anything in life. Why should a kid listen to parents on not smoking when both parents heavily smoke, for instance?

I’m just stunned by that Sharif. Nobody will run for a political seat or become a nun or priest if every human being will do as you say. Basically, I’m just trying to be fair, it’s between modesty and necessity that I have to earn from writing, lol.

lol, yeah I know people like that. I know that everyone slips up from time to time or even deliberately on occasion (depending on the circumstance) but I think that many people need a lot of self reflection before telling others what they should do.
