Don’t Be So Quick to Judge

Maybe kids aren’t solely to blame for the problems within young society today.

“One gets large impressions in boyhood, sometimes, which he has to fight against all his life.” As said by Mark Twain, almost everything kids learn today is taught either by the older “mature” adults of today or they picked up themselves because no-one has told them other wise. Yet everyone seems quick to jump on the bandwagon and blame them solely for the problems they have. Children who act up in large groups such as classrooms are often pleasant, quiet children when within a small learning environment. Often due to an embarrassment because they aren’t able to cope with the work or the bored due to the work being to easy for them.

Instead of addressing this problem more often than not the child will be sent out of class and forced to learn even less! I am not saying I have a solution for this problem but surely little things can be done, even something as simple as getting volunteers in a few hours a week to work with the kids and give them the time and attention they need. People have always said that kids act up for attention and if we were to give them the attention they crave we would be giving them exactly what they want.

Maybe this is the answer let them know that there are people willing to help them; they won’t just pass them off as a problem. If the only thing they end up learning is social skills maybe that in itself is of benefit in an era when the ASBO seems to be a prize over a punishment! That’s only my opinion and at being only 21 years old I remember myself acting up due to the work not being challenging enough and I think more could have been done. So I would like to hear other peoples views on this and maybe in time we can find some sort of solution for a problem that seems to lack one!

“We can’t solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them.” Maybe it’s time to try something different.
