The concept of traditional and e-learning is different and most of us still confuse about it. E-learning is a new medium in teaching and learning system. E-learning is a learning involving new mechanisms for communication, where it consists of computer networks, multimedia, content portals, search engines, electronic libraries, distance learning, and Web-enabled classrooms. Based on e-learning concept, learners and lecturer can form and participate on online learning communities and allow student to do discussions beyond the walls of the classroom via a wide range of new communications platforms. E-learning provides opportunities in seeking and providing information and to develop a good relationship with participants. It is an effective way for delivering and sharing content by using communication tool such as email, bulletin boards, conferencing system, forum online, chat room and video conferencing. Due of social interactions and the important aspects of teamwork in modern learning, collaborative learning have applied into e-learning which student generally work together in groups of two or more. Otherwise, it can change from “chalk and talk” lecturers to use the rich multimedia and interactive content.

Due to this situation, most of the schools, colleges and universities have start to use the e-learning as their new learning concept and it has been at the forefront by providing flexible learning opportunities for their students consistently by expanding the learning technology. However, when we decided to use e-learning concept in our learning environment, the way on how we delivery contents are very important. There is no point if an e-learning portal has a complete notes but the user does not an interest in using it just because the way you present it the notes make your users feel easy to understand. As a result your objectives will not achieve. Usually, users are happy with interactive, because they want to learn with good mood but not in stressful mood. To ensure that e-learning delivery its content successfully, we need a good characteristics of e-learning content. The followings are some of the key characteristics of an effective e learning content delivery:

Visual

E-learning portal should use a combination of multimedia such as relevant images, video, audio, and other medium, rather than simply text, when appropriate to provide information to users. By using the relevant images, video, audio or other medium, it can avoid users bored with the e-learning. The usage of these multimedia elements should given a meaning and related with the content in the e-learning portal. For example, the images and video should relate with the topic to make sure learners understand what they have learned before. Based on the research, most of the learners are more interested with the combination of multimedia in their learning.

Interactive

The e-learning portal also should have interactive elements. The interactive e-learning allows users to interact with the courses ware through quizzes and multimedia activities which let them practice skills, demonstrate knowledge, discover relationships and new information, and reinforce learning. It is an important matter to ensure that user engages in some forms of interaction at least every two to five minutes.

A good and informative article. Thanks for sharing.
E-learning has great benefits, but overreliance on e-learning can also be damaging.
Face to face contact is invaluable as it can detect if real learning is happening in the desired manner from observed behaviour and other cues which e-learning cannot produce.

I always wanted to enroll in an open University in our place…
though it’s not purely online because you also have to face your professors in some instances. I imagine that would be great: making things simple to learn more.
