Easy Grades Enrage Me

by Marie Romet in Education, January 13, 2009

So I work at an elementary school after-care program. Basically parents ditch their kids there from the time they get out of school till 6pm.

Some of them are working, but others are out drinking or sleeping with the pool guy. Who knows. They pay my bills so I don’t ask questions. Anyway, so most of my coworkers and I share the same major: education. I know I know not the best feild. You have whiners who hate kids but want permanent jobs and benefits, morons who should never EVER be allowed around children simply because they lack any form of common sense, and hippies who end up teaching biology to middle schoolers. I on the other hand just happen to love it. However the classes I’m taking a lot of my managers have already taken. So they start discussing how they never had to do certain requirements my professor is enforcing. Despite the fact that these courses are state mandated. Whats worse is that they were happy about this. They LOVED it!! One girl’s professor asked for 20 bucks and guarunteed an A. Not only was he shallow but he was cheap too. She was so excited about how she never had to volunteer at a school or write up fake lesson plans. Despite the fact that I LOATHE entirely the idea of a horrendous disorganized rambling professor, I was a bit unaware of how common students were happy about this. This is your FUTURE people!

How could you not want to work for it? How could you not want to put your blood, sweat, and tears into this?! I hate going to a class and the first thing the professor says is “I don’t use the book, don’t buy it.” (okay I like that a little) or “All my tests are open book, open notes, don’t worry you will get an A.” How can you say that to a bunch of college kids and expect them to grow into anything but the pathetic sap puddles they are at the moment? I ADORE working my ass off and earning my As. I like when I get an A and other people get Cs and Bs. I like being the best for a reason damnit. Its because its a natural process to make things right in the academic world. You work; you get good grades. Now however, because of the doush bags running these classes, me and others who work hard for their grades have to share their academic vitory with people who have never even read an entire book in their life and use ‘your’ and ‘you’re’ interchangably. Yeah yeah yeah, life isn’t fair and it should be an internal reward to know that you really are more dedicated and perhaps a whole 100 IQ points higher than them but thats not enough damnit. I want those Cs and Ds to burn holes in their grade summaries! To taunt them in their sleep! To crawl into their dreams and make them nightmares! *sigh* oh unjust academic world.
