Education Reform
Sometimes it is best to think outside of the box. How about a better school system, more balanced teacher/student ratio and not spend any more money to do it? You will find a totally different approach.
New Standards
Standards are changing all the time for the students, well how about doing some changing to the whole educational system? Teachers are burned out with the larger student size in the classroom. Having to spend more effort in teaching gifted-to remedial learners all at the same time can be too stressful.
Synopsis
- Student teachers will have received an AA or AS
- Instead of going to college for 2 more years, they will volunteer to Student-Teach.
- A teacher at the school will have 1-2 Student-Teachers under their wing at all times.
- Student-Teachers will help with lesson plans, questions, crowd control, grading papers etc.
- The Student-Teachers will rotate each semester into different grades for 2 years.
- Rotation helps them to get a better idea of how to teach different grades as well as know which grades they are better suited for.
- Those wanting to teach High School will take extra courses on the preferred subject and then teach that chosen subject for one full year.
- After that they can become credentialed teachers.
- The Veteran teachers will impart their years of wisdom to the Student-Teacher allowing them to be completely prepared for the field with a practical functioning education.
- Teachers will also have a huge load taken off their shoulders, plus the school system does not need to spend extra money for smaller classroom sizes or extra teachers.
Change
This change can be a huge benefit, especially to the over burdened California classrooms with many ESL learner mixed in with the other students.
It may be hard to handle for the bureaucrats, but the school system is not getting any better as the days move on.
Hopefully this little idea can grow and come to fruition, maybe a few test pilot schools in the lower economic areas where there is a greater need could try this idea out. There is no money to lose. Let me know what you think.
