The title itself connotes an idea between the students and the teachers. English language teaching is susceptible to embrace new fashions without knowing the students needs. If you look into our education system, there is no dramatic change, all are still on the level self-discovery and we are pounding ourselves on different theories which are not still applicable to present structure of our society. As you observed, we have different systems implemented on different schools. As a result, the students become confused which system to be followed. We are not only suffers this kind of insurrection against our system.
Even other countries have also the dilemma on this matter. Now the article tackles on how teachers empowered their learners using the latest methodologies on their hands. Perhaps, I would say that some of our teachers are inconsistent in giving the right education that students must acquire. Nowadays students are psychologically demanding yet if they will not enjoy or agree on the way the teachers taught them, they lose their interest in learning the subject matter even the best instruction has given. I agree also with the reports of Nunan that learners should never be forced to engage in learning experiences to which they object. As stated in Stephen Krashen’s Input hypotheses, learner should not force them to learn linguistic inputs if they are not ready. Now, when will be the learner ready enough to accept those? That is the time that the teachers diagnose their students. The teacher and students must have the relationship that is respectful and truthful. It is a common atmosphere that the students don’t like their teachers as the students doesn’t like her too. For that instance, the motivation to learn second language is not achievable because the breakdown has already leaked and it is not a good indicator of positive learning. According to this article, students in Australia rated grammar exercises and structured writing being the highest while the pair work and student centered activities as the lowest. On this outset, teachers must have a broader perspective on her mind that students have different needs. It must be an awakening on the part of the teachers that they must have the opportunity to develop their own way and make a displacement at their own pace so that they can think of a method that is worthy and practical to the students. The only true meaning of empowered is not how much or what kind of power do you want to give to them yet what kind of empowerment that is needed to them.
