Fun and Easy Lab for School
Very fast and easy lab for kids at school.
Comparing mass and volume
Purpose:
To determine the mass-to-volume ratio of different amounts of the same substance.
Materials:
graduated cylinder (100 ml)
beaker (250 ml)
water
corn syrup
40 pennies
Procedure:
Part A
1 make a table
2 use a balance to measure mass of cylinder
3 use a balance to measure mass of cylinder and water
(20 ml)
4 calculate mass of the water
5 repeat steps 1 to 4 using 40 ml then 80 ml of water
6 empty and dry cylinder
7 get a beaker of corn syrup (80 ml)
8 repeat steps 1 to 6 using corn syrup instead of water
9 clean and dry
Part B
10 measure mass of 20 pennies
11 place the 20 pennies in 10 ml of water and measure the rise in water level to measure volume
