Teachers stimulate minds and hearts to that creative self-effort which alone gives significance to the term education. The teacher must have an appreciation of the social meaning and purpose of education as well as knowledge of the particular subject, which he has to teach for the development of his pupils and their future place as citizens.

The teacher must know more about the psychology of the child as a growing personality, his growth, and the learning process. In conclusion the teacher must to know something about the health of his pupils, so as their particular abilities and even disabilities, and about their environment and social background. The teacher thus becomes a far more important participant in the whole educative process.

The problem is that teachers have too many students to be able to spend the kind of time it would take to actually get to know each ones strengths and weaknesses. In an ideal world this would make perfect sense and all students would learn equally well, but it seems that a student has to really stand out to be noticed by a teacher. They either have to be very bright or really ’slow’ at learning. And the students inbetween have to survive as best they can. That’s how it is in life in general if you think about it.
    Great article. Thanks for sharing.
