Gender Issues: A New View
Gender Issues, the incessant dispute, from my point of view.
Gender Issues: A New View
Well, we might as well admit it. The incessant dispute over the different adolescent concerns of both genders is becoming recognized as a prominent hotly-debated topic. The question becomes: Should we focus our attention on the various psychological debilities of the young male population, or the myriad of uprising female concerns? Assuredly, the answer is neither. Rather than direct attention to the quantity of support given to each gender group, the focus should be to target the groups specifically to bring out the best in each one.
First of all, to no stretch of my imagination do I believe that boys have a scarcity of attention given. The National Assessment of Educational Progress determined that in 2009, female adolescents performed significantly better than male adolescents on their standard examination. Many concerned parents would be forced to believe that not enough attention is given to the male adolescent population, in light of this information. This is not true. The truth is that males do indeed go through an entirely different psychological development pattern than females do, causing them to appear inferior in areas such as Critical Reading (the category assessed above). The same goes for the “social forces that distort their [boys’] lives” (Wente 429). It’s all part of a biologically proven behavioural pattern. The current definition of educational success is very narrow, providing disadvantages to male adolescents; therefore, the system must be ameliorated for increased satisfaction.
Focusing on the different aspects of both boys and girls is a much better use of attention than focusing on the need for quantity of concern. Stop trying to alter the biological patterns of boys with ideas of “sharing and caring.” Stop smothering your girls with attention that they may not have the desire for. Instead, try the new approach to bring out the best of both genders.
