High School Diploma: The Passport to a Secure Future

Everyone envisions a secure future with a well-paying and satisfying job. Getting a good job is dependent not only on one’s intrinsic talents or skills, but also with his/her educational achievement.
Statistics from US Census Bureau shows that the average earnings of individuals increase as their educational attainment rise. To be precise, the March 2007 data for males show that a high school graduate earns an average of $ 42,466 as compared to a high school dropout who earns an average of $ 31,434, while a bachelor’s degree holder earns twice as much as a high school graduate. In addition, the March 2007 report from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics shows that unemployment rates are higher for those with lower educational attainments: 7.1 % for those without High School diploma; 4.4 % for High School graduates; 3.6 % for those who attended some college or have an associate degree; and 2% for those who have Bachelor’s Degree or more.
Evidently, getting a high school diploma is significant because it opens more doors of opportunity for an individual. Completing high school is the first step in preparing for a future career. A high school education equips an individual with basic skills necessary for most jobs. Furthermore, a high school education is necessary if one wants to broaden his/her career options by pursuing post-secondary education. Indeed, a high school diploma is a passport for a secure future.
