How The Internet Has Changed Education

While education has changed a lot in history, learn how the Internet has changed education drastically in a short period of time.

The look and feel of a school has changed over the years, especially since the Internet has come into the picture.  Going to school does not always mean that you have to get up early and walk or drive to classes and listen to lectures and take tests, you can simply sit in front of your computer in your pajamas to attend classes.  Internet has changed education by making information readily available to those who are searching for it.  Search engines provide people with the ability to type in what they are looking for and all of the information that is needed is retrieved from the enormous databank that we call the Internet.

Free software programs that are available over the Internet are just an easy download away from helping students create more polished and presentable essays, they are able to create presentations on a computer program instead of with markers and huge poster boards.  These programs take all of the difficulty in miniscule tasks out of preparing for a report for school.  Online learning tools also help students learn the way that is the most comfortable for the student, not what the teacher knows and that is it.  All students learn differently, and since there is extra freedom when learning online, students can get a more customized lesson plan in this way.

One if the reasons that online learning is becoming so popular so quickly is the ability for the student to learn right from their own home.  Students no longer have to attend classes at certain times of the day, not to mention the fact that they do not even have to leave the house to learn.  Students no longer have to drive in traffic across town to get to campus, they no longer have to sit through long classes in uncomfortable chairs, and walking all over campus to go to different classes in different buildings can also be a thing of the past for some students.

Some people think that online learning is promoting laziness in students because they can learn from home without all of the headaches of actually being physically in class, but those people with that opinion have probably not taken any classes online.  Online learners have to be very self motivated and disciplined in order to be sure that they have studied for their tests and that they turn all of their assignments in on time.  There is no set class time in which the topics will be discussed that needs to be learned and there is no professor to help motivate them to get things done on time, they have to do that all on their own.  Online learning is not for every student, but for those that enjoy learning at their own pace and can handle all of the freedoms that are allowed when learning online, it can be a perfect solution.
