How to Make Science a Fun Filled Adventure for Your Children

The need of the hour is to instill the interest in science into young minds if our country, and the world, wants to take giant strides in the world of science, technology and medicine.

If you have come here to read this article, then there is a fair chance that you are a teacher. Being a teacher you might have very well noticed the change in expression on kids’ face when you utter the word science. As soon the word “Science” reaches their ears, their mind starts to contemplate something which is about a boring book or lecture or something that is only the passion of scientists with a bald head and thick spectacles.

They often fail to understand that science is all around and learning science is fun! The need of the hour is to instill the interest in science into young minds if our country, and the world, wants to take giant strides in the world of science, technology and medicine. But, how can we make science interesting for children? Here are a few ways to achieve this goal:

You can start it with everyday objects or by purchasing a simple science kit or activity book. These kits not only help to make science filled with fun, but it also makes them learn science without even knowing that they are doing so.

First, take up those aspects of science that catch your children’s fancy. For example, you can start with a volcano construction demonstration and explain the nature of it step by step to your children. You can also teach them through chemistry kits, the color changes when different chemicals react may fascinate children can help in bring an inclination towards science.

It is not that just facts and activities are science as just words and idioms are not just English. It covers a breadth of topics from biology, botany, earth sciences and forensics and so on. There are kits available for every field of science. These kits are helpful as they come up with all equipments necessary for experiments, so you do not have to search for each of them independently. They are also such that they draw the attention of a child and help them to learn with understanding.

It also makes the entire family come together and join in to make science a fun filled activity. It is also not necessary that a science activity has to be done only inside a room. There are a lot of activities that will serve as a learning experience from nature. Taking your children on study trips to botanical gardens or to a science museum can make them learn a lot.

Interest in the study of geology can also be brought by encouraging them to collect rocks, making them write about their structure, color and composition. Reading out a topic from a reference book aloud or making them read it or using the advancements in technology and making use of multimedia and 3d animation to teach them is yet another choice. So, these ideas can bring a lot of transformation in the mind set of students about science. Never forget that learning will always take place if you keep it fun and engaging.

Some great suggestions. If any subject is taught in a fun filled way, children would be happy to learn it.

I had fun teaching science to my preschool kids. That’s because they had fun too. I guess the problem begins when they’re older. Teaching approaches and classroom structures become too rigid. Learning math is another problem for kids.

good suggestions, comes handy not only for Science teachers but Math teachers as well. I used to teach High School Math and one of my predicament then was how to catch my pupils attention. We all know not to many students like Math.
