Integrate Technology in The Classroom

Today, we are surrounded by technology. Technology in our offices, technology in our kitchens, technology in our living rooms and even technology in our bathrooms! Don’t you think it’s about time to extend technology to the classroom, too?

Let’s say that you’re a teacher and you still use the old fashioned chalk board. You realise that it takes time to write everything out on a chalk board, and the since the chalk is becoming quite expensive to top up. You decide to take the jump to get an Interactive Whiteboard.

Benefits of an Interactive Whiteboard:

  • Text and images can be produced much quicker
  • Whatever can be seen on the PC can be projected onto the whiteboard
  • Entire lessons can be produced and given using the whiteboard
  • Students find them easier to read from – the teachers handwriting is often confusing!

OK, maybe you’re content with the chalk board or the plain white board. After all, Interactive Whiteboards can be very costly and difficult to set up. Don’t despair, because there ARE other ways to introduce technology into the classrooms.

Purchase a set of cameras for the class to use. Study has proven that students are able to learn more when they’re having fun, so why not take the class outside and get the students to use the cameras as part of a project or just a simple lesson. Plan a lesson to include the use of cameras, and the students will have much more fun!

Get a projecter! I cannot stress this enough, if you want your students to be able to watch films, clips, read from the board, etc. then you MUST get a projecter. All a projecter does it project the image of what is on the PC onto a whiteboard. They are much cheaper than the Interactive Whiteboard, but they don’t include as much interactivity.

You now have an idea of how technology can improve the efficiency of your students, improve their education and focus. Making the leap to make your class involve the use of technology is not only preparing them for the future (a technology powered world), but also saving money in the long run and helping the environment.
