Internet Usage Rules for Teachers with Computers in Class

Here are some ideas for monitoring the usage of school computers in the classroom. If these rules are followed, the teacher will act as a human firewall protecting the integrity of the assignment while steering students from harm.

Internet Use Guidelines

Access to the internet will be monitored by the Information Technology (IT) staff.

Students are authorized to access only internet sites that have been approved by the school.

Access to students’ personal e-mail accounts or any other websites that have not received approval will not be allowed.

Internet Downloads

Students are not allowed to download any content from the internet. The downloading of material will be controlled by the IT staff or classroom teacher.

Downloading of necessary plug-ins, add-ons, or any required software must be initiated by a staff member.

Student Help

Students that are having difficulty with computer use may be aided by students that have a high degree of practical computer experience.

The student help will be limited to the practical operation of the computer only.

A student may not help a fellow student during a test or exam that is computer based.

Troubleshooting

In the even there is any issue with the computers, the network, or the function/connectivity of the internet, the students will notify the teacher.

The teacher will make an attempt to fix the problem but will have direct access to the assigned member of the IT staff who will be able to immediately address the issue so as to not delay the progress of the class.

Close of Class

Once the allotted time for the assignment has ended or the lesson is finished, the students will be sure to save any documents to their network profile, classroom folder or portable USB drive.

Then they will proceed to clean their work area and log off of the computers in accordance with school policies.
