Let the Best Succeed

Success is the bi-product of competition.

Over the years we have been gradually taking the word “Competition” out of our society. Yes, we can watch individuals competing for our entertainment. However, the idea of competing, and being the best in our everyday lives has been replaced with the idea, “Everyone is a Winner”. Our children are no longer challenged to succeed. They are being taught that if they excel, someone else may get their feelings hurt. We no longer need to teach our children the importance of being “good winners” or “good losers”, there are no losers, because we are all winners.

We have allowed our public schools to create an environment where doing just enough is enough. If you show up you are guaranteed success. Under these conditions can we really expect our children to excel or even succeed! Why work hard? When everyone is a “Rock Star”!

Our public schools are facing budget cuts. The first places they are looking to cut or eliminate are the few existing programs that the idea of competition still exist. Cuts are being made to Advance Curriculum courses, where our brightest children have the opportunity to excel beyond the average. Sports and Music, where those who are athletically or musically gifted are allowed to excel beyond those less talented. And of course talented teachers.

We are letting the newer and younger teachers go. The teachers who still have the fire of teaching and who still believe that by instilling the desire to learn and challenge oneself, a child can accomplish anything. We are letting these teachers go, why? To make sure that those who are ingrained in the “Everyone is a Winner” system can continue to do their damage.

The word competition is slowly being removed from our society. The world competition is simply becoming another word meaning “Entertainment”! The American idea of competition equals success is being lost. We are heading in the direction of becoming a nation of mediocrity instead of a nation of excellence!

Competition does not assure Success!  Competition assures the Best Succeed!

I’m sorry but I do not believe success is a bi-product of competition. I actually believe that in many cases, competition can be a detriment to society.
