Mr. Ibrahim Atalia Dumlu principal Light Academy-Mombasa said they decided unanimously after the school was ranked better amongst the private school in Coast Province.
“We intend to send our grandaunts to over seas to get internationally exposed,” said Atalia.
About 12 students from the institution will benefit from the programme that is yet to begin later in the year; Atalia explains that the achievement of the students was a collective process both from the teachers and students themselves. The students will be required to take different causes of study once the programme rolls out.
The principal added that most of these causes include field of ICT, Design Projects and Environmental studies, saying that this will open their minds. These countries include Turkey, USA, Holland and Georgia.
However, he urged the grandaunts to be more of self reliance as they go to the outside world since you (gradaunts) will either make or break their lives.
“Your future is bright, so you have to make everything to make this world a better place to live in,” he said.
Drug Abuse
The coastal region has a very bad publicity in terms of drug problems in the region, a menace that has contributed most of the students and schools performing poor in their final exams.
He urged government and religious leaders to intervene and bright a halt on the menace since it has whipped almost younger generations in the region.
Mr. Atalia said the problem might only be salvaged when the trade and corners of suppliers are blocked and the public will cooperate to voluntarily give information to ant-drug officers.
“Suppliers should be eliminated and public freely give information,” he said.
Meanwhile, Provincial Director of Education Mr. Tom Majani also alluded to the fact that poor performance in our public may be attributed to drug trade in the region.
He said the menace is a serious damage to the youths of this region and we have to do something to save the existing generation.
“These dangers are real,” he said to the parents who had come for the graduation ceremony for their children.
In addition he urged the parents to be more vigilant to their children especially to drug related stories.
Mr. Majani also called upon stakeholders in education especially ministry of education to invest more in quality education rather concentrating only in free education.
He said the reason why most of the private schools do better is time and resources the investors have put in place for the success of the students.
“As a nation to develop, it needs to enhance in quality education,” said Mr. Majani
However, he thanked foreign investors especially Turkish government in their huge investment in education sector, besides he urged other investor to emulate Turkish style and invest since the government-Kenya- gives equal opportunity to investors.
