Moment of Silence in Public Schools in Illinois
Moment of Silence is bad. Read more to find out!
The moment of silence. A time when religious students can pray and non-religious kids not pray. A few weeks ago the ”federal court lifted an injunction against a controversial law that critics claim is essentially state-sponsored prayer.” (http://www.suntimes.com/news/metro/3314775-418/law-state-court-schools-moment.html). In my opinion I think this law is dumb because the kids and teachers are non-religious are FORCED to stay apart of the session (15-20 seconds a day). They don’t have to close their eyes are usual religious people do while praying. I read a very interesting article made by a man named Eric Zorn and recommend you to take a look at it (http://blogs.chicagotribune.com/news_columnists_ezorn/2011/01/reflect_on_this.html?cid=6a00d83451b4ba69e20148c7c60398970c).
The reason why I disagree this is because students have the freedom of religion to pray in their heads before a test(even if this law was not in affect). But if a student stands up supposedly and starts praying out loud that they would have “wisdom and power to ace this test”, that would be unacceptable. If a student wants to pray, pray. If a student doesn’t want to pray, don’t. (No one is forcing you, until this law was put in place). In the article Eric Zorn had made it says that even Rod Blagojevich had disagreed about this law. He was actually right for once. This law was put in motion two years ago and was sued and was put in motion. So why are they putting it back up!? To get sued again. It’s like going the longer path even though the shorter path is in front of you and you don’t take it. Why is this in motion. You ask me.
