More Parents Turning to Online Virtual Schools

Virtual Schooling vs Public School.

With the state of the economy and costs to send children to public or private schools, many parents are turning to free virtual online public schools offered by the States for free. And most have offered online schooling for kids from kindergarten to 12th grade for the past few years. Currently virtual schools are offered in 44 States. Aprox. 1 million children are enrolled online. Other reasons noted for turning to online public schools is some feel their local public school is not advanced enough for their children.

Do you or would you consider online schools for your children K-12 grades? It seems to me I would be considering some classes as an addition to my child’s education along with a private or public school attendance. I think this is a great way for more advanced learning.

One of the debates about it from local public schools is some teachers fear they will lose their jobs eventually. But a bigger debate is the local public schools feel the online schools whether provided online directly from the State or not will profit and their schools will lose out on some of the financial funding.

Do you think these States that offer free virtual schools are beneficial for parents and children? Or has it gone too far and students need to be in a classs room or have one on one teaching at home with their parents instead of online at these ages of K-12th?
