Music During School Passing Time

by IACEYI in Education, January 12, 2009

Picture this morning at 7:15; you were probably walking through the halls of your school half-awake and getting ready for the big day ahead of you. By getting 6-7 hours of sleep the night before, the chains of drowsiness are pulling you back to its peaceful slumber. Is this you? Is this what you want to be like everyday throughout your high school career?

My friends, I give you a solution to your sluggish-morning problems. Music must be the answer. With music during passing time as well as in the beginning of the day, it gives us many advantages, and is favored by the students.

We can start by making a music set list. Just like your I-Pod or musical device, a set list will have many different types of genres, and will provide a song everyone will like. If on Monday Rock is blaring out the speakers, and on Tuesday the heaven-like Tunes of Classical Music are wafting through the halls, everyone will have a day to look forward to their music.

Did you know that some types of music help you retain knowledge? Frances Rauscher said the music of Beethoven and Mozart were clinically proven to help you remember what you studied or recalled the night before. Even if test scores managed to tip the iceberg of a percent, teachers and students would be happy. If you are nervous, this music will also help you. When I was in middle school, I was also a nervous wreck about Mid-Terms and finals. The day of my math final ,my mom suggested I listen to classical music on the bus ride there. I found out I did good on the final! Coincidence, I think not! If classical music was played through the halls, people would be singing “Ode to Joy” with A’s in their hands. It will give us the confidence to succeed.

I believe that if we pulled together as one high school, it would be like the Spartans overtaking the Persians. All the students would stand up for what they believed in, and finish the job.

Teachers may also like this idea. Some teachers share the same type of music as the students, and might hope for this change to happen.

The Constitution gives us the right to speak freely. We cannot afford to get our speech tongue-tied with the administration. We can give this our all.

I give you one small task. I wish you all would help make this happen. If its by telling friends, giving an article to the newspaper, asking the student council, or ever overthrowing the school leaders(which isn’t the best option), it would help this cause greatly. Thank You.
