My Thoughts on Education

EDUCATION: IS IT ACTUALLY FAIR?

I noticed that in my years in school (currently in grade 12 high school), that education is not a balanced system at all! There are so many flaws in education that I don’t even know where to start criticizing. Teachers ought to know the workload you get from your other classes before they start dumping all this stuff for you to do! We have another life outside the world of learning, even though some may be fused with education. I think that society has morphed the world today into, what I would call a “standard” life of living. You’re born, you grow up as a child (not remembering anything when your older) then you are immediately put into preschool. It is a MUST to attend to school as viewed by society today.

After elementary school you’re off to high school, supposedly the most “fun” part of your life. Yeah right.

As a niner you begin to explore high school life. Often getting into trouble with the teachers or pulling pranks with your friends, and not forgetting, falling into love with some random girl you find very attractive. Its all over the place, you must balance your social life with learning, homework, projects and everything! I know its hard for teachers to create a method in which it is best for the class but I think they aren’t trying enough, and maybe I cant blame them. Flooded with students year after year dealing with those who don’t care about school at all and such. But really, sometimes you have so much work that the saying “homework should only take few hours a day” turns into all nighters even in high school! I mean everything has its limits and I think its time to reconsider the workload for students.

All this randomness that is being splattered here is from my own experience. As a niner (grade 9) I thought high school was very serious, only later to find out that it is VERY boring and nothing exciting ever happens (excluding the usual brawls). So after that I became really lazy, stopped doing homework and only did the projects and stuff that actually count for the marks. Now here I am in my final year, struggling to get things done so my marks would be decent enough to at least get me to a good university! I’ve never been this stressed in my life!

Overall, education is not what is said to be, a new learning experience, the exploration and fun times of life. Rather its boring, hard, and you have to do a lot of grinding. Hopefully I’m able to get past this final year and move on into an ENTIRE new world that has yet to open for me. And to all others out there in high school, DO YOUR WORK! Trust me it will help greatly in the future.
