Novel Idea
Having problems with procrastination? Do you have trouble starting schoolwork and focusing on it to its completion? Here is a suggestion to get your brain in "work" mode.
If you are like me and most young folks these days you know how hard it has become to focus your mind on any one task. Maybe it is because we all have A.D.D. or a short attention span, but I refuse to accept this. Instead I feel it is that we are distracted by outside factors. Some obvious examples are what you’re doing now, the Internet. This may be the most influential factor in distracting us from getting schoolwork done on time. Others include television, friends, drugs, alcohol, relationships, family and the modern life in general.
We find ourselves in such an interconnected society today that it becomes hard to disconnect and set your mind to doing schoolwork. More than this we find ourselves procrastinating until the night before on any project that allows it. I feel like no one really enjoys doing this but for some reason nearly all of us are guilty of such procrastination. It is a modern disease perhaps? If so we should be encouraged to know that all diseases can be cured!
My method of activating my brain to go into “work” mode is quite simple. Read. When you feel the urge to get work done you usually just think about the due date and your mind wanders elsewhere. I challenge you to re-access your feeling which will allow you to start working. To do this is simple, get your mind into an educated place. How do we do that? Easy, pick a book and read. Actually it does not even have to be a book, it could be a magazine, comic book, newspaper, whatever you want so long as it is a text and not on a computer.
Read. Read for as long as you want until you feel you could start doing other work. It could be five minutes of reading a news article, or thirty minutes of a school novel (which is what i suggest because its a two birds with one stone scenario). Reading will get your brain into a more focused mindset. You will have allowed yourself to focus on a single topic, from here it is much easier to begin a project or whatever schoolwork it may be.
Reading is enjoyable. If you do not agree with me than this method may not be for you, and neither is higher education. Read anything for as long as you want and then attempt to get started on your work. This technique has led to success for myself and everyone who i have suggested it too. Now I am telling you, try it, you will be happy with the results. Now get to work!
