Parental Involvement” Through ‘In-Class Support Program’
Involvement in children’s education is again a golden chance for parents to update and enhance their learning and understanding about new modes and perspectives with children’s eye.
“The school will teach children how to read, but the environment of the home must teach them what to read. The school can teach them how to think, but the home must teach them what to believe”. Charles A. Wells
Child is the centre of any educational setting where curriculum, teachers, infrastructure all revolved around him. The physical structure in any educational setting is one of the major means where learning takes place. Curriculum is another facet accessible for every teacher further translated accordingly in the form of prescribed text books and other supplementary reference material. However teachers performed their roles as facilitator and trying to achieve the targets throughout the academic year which they usually set in the beginning of year.
The above mentioned chain could be figure out very easily in any of the educational system through top down approach or bottom up method and outcomes may be observed very easily. The formal school structure has been now rigorously experiencing the unwillingness of parent’s involvement and only for this reason, practical dimension of curriculum could not even achieve. This vulnerable aspect is becoming now an educationaldilemma especially during the in -class support time which indicates that parents are no doubt aware about children day to day school activity but don’t even know whether learning is taking place or how they could become the real partner of their children?
The statute defines parental involvement as the participation of parents in regular, two-way, and meaningful communication involving student academic learning and other school activities, including ensuring that parents play an integral role in assisting their child’s learning; that parents are encouraged to be actively involved in their child’s education at school; [and] that parents are full partners in their child’s education and are included, as appropriate, in decision-making and on advisory committees to assist in the education of their child. …” (A-1)
The formal schooling is not sufficient to decide what and where a child would be in near future and the entire responsibilities cannot be put on school system only because each classroom contains mixed ability of learners which teacher(s) usually deals with individual differences. Only parents are the key medium whose involvement and induction help teachers to deal children with specific need and sort out solution of any pertinent impediment. The reason behind is that parents understand their children best cause they usually spend more time with them and that’s why through their on -time support, children learning’s ability and class participation can flourish and foster. As Stenhouse mentioned’ (1977, p.3).that “The central problem of curriculum study is the gap between our ideas and inspiration and our attempts to institutionalized them” This indicates that parents can play a vital role in the learning of their children and minimize the gap between curriculum and child’s understanding. Hence their partnership will also determine that how a taught curriculum should practice in the home environment where children could further complement their learning through practical dimension of education with their parent’s support.
