Philadelphia Pa Mayor Has Problems

The mayor of Philadelphia inherited some problems and the people of Philadelphia don’t like his solutions. Read here to find out more.

Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter is having problems. When he was elected in 2008, he inherited $1 billion in debt. That debt increased because of the recession the country went through. He balanced the budget with Federal Stimulus money. But probably what makes people maddest is a rise in garbage collection fees which made the city$108 million. Then there is a tax on beverages that have sugar which raised $39 million.

Mayor Nutter didn’t endear himself to his city by some of his suggestions of things to cut in the budget when first elected.  They were a bit to the extreme. Two examples include closing libraries, and now thi one is extreme,  he wanted to lay off firemen. Many people haven’t forgiven his early suggestions.

Asia Scott who is 28 years old and lives in Northwest Philadelphia’s rich Mt  Airy neighborhoods. who said of Mayor Nutter, ” he didn’t get (my vote) last time and he’s not getting it this time,”

There was a survey conducted between January 31-February 1, in which 400 participants, in which it included 320 people who were registered to vote. In this survey has a margin of error of plus or minus4.9%. This poll was conducted by Franklin & Marshall College. Out of the people who participated a half of the people think of him as doing his job welland a third view him badly, the rest of the people haven’t yet formed an opinion of him. The number who think he should have a second term comes in at 37%.

They didn’t close the firestations permanently, but they do close them by rotating which saves the city $4 million a year.

If there’s a problem with him. It’s the people’s fault they’re the one who elected him.
