All the information you could want on the Post 9/11 GI Bill and how it can help you in getting your education.

This is an excellent oppurtunity for us currently serving and those looking to enlist.

I was so overjoyed to hear about this new GI Bill. I had to share it with everyone who would listen.

Now for some GI Bill history:

The “Servicemen’s Readjustment Act” the WWII GI Bill made higher education affordable for eight million veterans.

-This bill expired in 1956 and it covered tuition fees books and gave veterans a living stipend while they were at school.

Now lets fast forward to today:

The current benefits offered to veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan are much lower than the original GI Bill.

-After contributing $1200.00, troops recieve a total of about $39,600 towards there education this only covers 60-70% of average cost for 4yrs at a public college or university or less than two at a private college.

Now lets move to the future (Aug 1 2009):

The new GI Bill is here and has been approved.

-The Post 9/11 bill will benefit those serving on or after Sept 11 2001
-It is available Aug 2009
-You can recieve up to 36 months of entitlement

So what are the benefits:

- Tuition and fees, not to exceed most expenseive in-state public institution of higher education.
-Monthly housing allowance equal to BAH amount payable to a military E-5 w/dependents in same zip code as school (paid to you) ***Sorry no internet schools
-Yearly books and supplies stipened for up to $1000 dollars per year (paid to you)
