Private Universities are They Really for Nigerian Youths?
Don’t shut the door behind you because you might need to go through it someday in the future. This is a popular adage that our leaders have failed to articulate. The bridge of education is gradually going down the drain, courtesy of today’s leaders. The country as a whole is not placing sufficient values on education anymore.
I’m not surprised because there are not interested in tomorrow’s leadership. All they have ever wanted is continuity, from grandfather, to father, and to son and sons. I think time we should our eyes. My daddy told me sometime, to forget about being a leader of tomorrow because tomorrow may never come when it comes to Nigeria leadership. Rather I should strive for a position in today’s leadership, when I asked him why he has lost hope completely in Nigerian leadership, this is what he said to me, ‘I remembered vividly in my university days in 70s when during the president (Gen Olusegun Obasanjo) visited my school, one of the things I had him say to us was this, YOU ARE THE LEADERS OF TOMORROW. He made us to echo it several time and we did. I have graduated with 3 kids; Olusegun Obaanjo is still the president of Nigerian. When will it be my turn let alone yours?.
At first we had hope believing that one day ‘E go better’ just as Tony Tetuila Sang in his Song. Because Naija is a place where everybody struggles for virtually everything, we thought of what to do since the education bridge has been destroy. Finally through the legal hard way.
Finally, at last we made it to the door of education only to discover that the doors and windows were short. After going through this huddles one begins to wonders if our leaders had us in their mind or are they among those that believe that no matter how old a young man is, as long as his father is still alone, he is still a child. The young has grown but the old has vehemently refused to retire. Should we now pray for the death of our leaders? I guess that is the only way out. If it had not been death who knows? Abacha would have still been the president of Nigeria. Maybe, praying for the death of a leader that has refused to give way for youth should be our prayer points this New Year. If Isaiah had known that what obstructs him from seeing the lord is Hosea, he would have prayed for his dealt early.
