Questions to Ask Your Tutoring Applicants

When it comes to hiring a tutor, there are some questions you are going to want to ask the applicant so you can be sure that you are going to be hiring someone who will truly benefit you in learning the material. Deciding to hire a tutor is a big decision and you want to make sure you are going to hire an applicant who meets all your criteria and will be an asset for you to have. To make sure you are choosing the best possible tutor for your needs, make sure you ask plenty of questions. The answers to these questions will be how you decide to hire, so make sure you are thorough in your interview so you can make sure you are only hiring the best of the best.

Not sure what you should be asking your applicants? Well here are some great questions to ask that will allow you to find out a lot about a tutor applicant and whether they are right for the job.

1)      Why do you want this job? This is a great question as it allows you to see what the motives are for the tutor. A good answer would include that they love being able to help people and that they want to use their knowledge to help someone else.

2)      Do you have any past tutoring experience? You want to hire someone who knows how to approach tutoring. Someone who has had experience with tutoring in the past and has had success with their tutoring is an applicant you should really consider hiring,

3)      Do you have a list of references I could contact? References are a great way to check out a candidate. These references will allow you to check up on how they did in the past and can offer you some insight you may not get from the applicants themselves.

4)      Do you have plenty of knowledge about the subject? You want to make sure you are hiring someone who has a good understanding of what it is you are trying to learn. There are different tutors for different subjects and material so make sure you find someone who is suited to help your specific needs.

5)      What kind of tutoring methods do you use? Different tutors approach tutoring in different ways. Some bring in games and fun activities that can help you gain a better understanding of the material, while others are more out of the book type of tutors. You should make sure that a tutor will use methods that you are comfortable with and that would actually benefit you in learning.

6)      Do they have any times that they wouldn’t be available? You want to make sure that your applicant is going to have the time to help you when you need them. If a nanny seems to be very busy with other activities then perhaps they aren’t going to fit in with your needs.
