Quitting School

by helloiam armanpreet in Education, June 26, 2008

Many kids quit school everyday and it is becoming a social issue.

Some of these kids quit school for a reason like a serious family problem or a life long brain or physical injury. However most of these kids quit school for fun; to get out of school, and not do any work. Some of the kids even find it cool to quit school, but these kids do suffer a lot when they grow up and try to get a job.

How to Quit School

To quit school you must be at least the age of sixteen in Ontario. Some parts of Canada and most parts in USA have the legal age of eighteen to quit school. This is usually in the most populated regions because if a lot of students quit school the education system might fall apart. Ontario has also been thinking of making the legal age to quit school eighteen since it is the most populated in Canada. To quit school you have to sign some legal forms. If you want to quit school before the age of sixteen (or eighteen) you parents have to agree and the board has to agree and make sure you have a home education system till you are sixteen and of legal age to quit education.

Benefits of Quitting School

There are no real benefits of quitting school. The only benefits of quitting school are personal and entertaining and will not help you later on in your life. The entertaining reasons are there are no school, no homework, no education, and no work. None of these benefits are actually benefits they are just fun. The other reason to quit school is not really entertaining and makes a little bit of sense, and it is that if you don’t do so well in school you can get out of school and get a job (obviously a hard job like labor) or start the training for a non education related job.

Disadvantages of Quitting School

There are many, many disadvantages of quitting school. You can never ever get a good job, a job that you have always wanted to do (unless you always wanted to do a bad job like labor.) If you get a bad job you will make much less money then you actually need to survive. You will end up living in a basement/apartment, have a bad car, and not get enough money for extra stuff. You could make hundreds of thousands of dollars more if you didn’t quit school and got a good job. Even if you do badly in school you can still get a better job if you didn’t quit school. Also it gets really hard to join college if you don’t have a high school graduation.

How to Rejoin School

It is easy to rejoin school once you quit all you have to do is register again. But it gets really hard to join college. Most colleges require a high school graduation. If you want to

rejoin college you must find an alternative way maybe a high school for adults or a college and a course that doesn’t require a high school graduation.

Conclusion

I would never ever quit school and I would never advise anyone to quit school. Quitting school might be fun for now but when you get older your life could get really hard. Some people even get bored at home and rejoin school because the can’t find anything else to do, but quitting school in the first place is really not smart.

Interesting essay. It seems you’ve been paying attention to what school officials and lots of other people say the necessity of school. However, much of this information is false. I suggest reading Grace Llewellyn and John Taylor Gatto. If you’re smart about it and dedicated to educating yourself, because you’re worth is, you can quit school and get a good job: in the past, Presidents, Nobel Prize Winners, Supreme Court Justices have quit school. Are those bad jobs? Actors, Screenwriters, Authors quit school, too. Arnold Schwarzenegger, he quit school and did it all.

I would never recommend quitting school if you don’t have a vision or direction for what you will do instead…that’s one thing that school IS good for, making sure you don’t have to think for yourself. However, there are resources out there that can help you attend college, even if you don’t complete school. Okay, maybe not if you live in Germany. Homeschooling, correspondence school, there are creative alternatives to sitting in a classroom five days a week, nine months a year, for twelve years.

I hope you find what you’re looking for

helloiam armanpreet, what you said in your post is agreeable, but not entirely when it comes to the benefits of quitting school that you explained. Keep in mind that there ARE positive benefits: when students experience issues such as depression or illness, it’s much safer to leave. I actually feel that people with problems should be considered, because many kids leave school due to issues. I have many problems and as a result I’m finishing the rest of grade 11 and just not coming back to school for grade 12 (I’d have to stay longer than necessary because there are numerous credits that I didn’t earn, but I’ve had enough of school now). I do plan to gear towards my diploma through online courses…because I’m contemplating on earning a degree in music one day.
Now I don’t think it should matter if a student drops out of high school…just as long as they observe alternative ways of receiving a diploma, wouldn’t you agree? (The alternatives I’m referring to include attending an adult learning center, or completing courses through correspondence or online…they make alternatives so it’s easy for dropouts to finish!)
What I’d like to say is that the benefits of quitting school are:
    – gaining motivation and self-esteem/confidence to improve troubled life without having to worry about school at the same time.
    – focusing more on the good of oneself (exercising, getting rest and proper nutrition etc. in order to grasp physical/mental satisfaction and high confidence that school just destroys for many kids)
    – escaping the stress and pressure from school if there are other issues to deal with.
    – and as for the kids who think it’s cool to quit school, well I think quitting will be a good opportunity for them to understand how important it is to have education in this day in order to be successful…this they will eventually realize once they start working and try earning a decent living, and this way they will consider going back to school or completing on the completion of their courses using other methods.
But it shouldn’t always be the fault of the students, many times issues do occur…and besides, they shouldn’t be blamed because you have to admit that school in North America still seems pretty dragged out, and it’s understandable that all kids want to do is get out of school after already ten years of elementary school…the slow process is due to our whack educational system…we’re practically still in the Pioneer days…
