Wisconsin Application Essay #1 Fall 2008
As a prospective student earlier this year I discovered The University of Wisconsin. From there I researched the school a lot, and did not find anything I did not like about it. Now it is my top choice school out of all the schools I am applying to. The University of Wisconsin has many good programs and offers all of the majors I am seriously considering. The opportunity to go to school in Madison would be a great one. If I do get accepted I would help to enhance the community in many ways, by having a hard work ethic, strong wholesome beliefs, ample commitment, and a good personality.
The summer before starting high school I started working at a local trap and skeet gun club. This job started out as something to do in the summer for a little extra money, but has developed into something important to me. I am still working at the club after school and on weekends, and I am now the club manager. It took two and a half years of hard work as a common laborer to get this promotion. As the club’s manager I am responsible for calling and scheduling workers, finding and hiring potential employees, and supervising the workers at work. There is a lot of pressure and responsibility on me as manager, but I enjoy my work and thrive to help the club run as smooth as possible.
Throughout my life I have always worked hard at what I put my mind to. Starting early in school, I learned quickly it was easier to do my work and do it correctly, rather than slacking. I believe this kind of work ethic came from my father. He is always working or finding something that needs to be done and doing it. He frequently tells me “there is always something that needs to be done.” This has become my nature in everything I do, whether it is at school, at work, or at home. This is one idea I believe in very strongly.
Equality is also something I strongly believe in. Everyone should be treated equally. Racism and prejudice are pointless and illogical. Nobody should be treated any differently because of their skin color, sex, or background. This country has taken a big step since its early years, but these prejudices are still around today. Absolute equality in our world is a possibility that I hope will one day be reality. Everybody would have to be given an equal chance at everything. Therefore there could be no preference for being of the majority or for being of a minority. One day I hope there will be absolute equality in this world.
My commitment, hard work ethic, good personality, and wholesome beliefs would all help enrich your community in many ways. I am a good “people person” and know how to deal with others. My job has helped make me into a good leader and taught me how to deal with others. I have a good work ethic and always try my best to excel at what I put my mind to. I have always been taken my education seriously and done well in school. Going to Madison would help me better myself, and that would help me better the community there and world surrounding.
