Sample Rules for Students Using Computers in the Classroom
All classrooms need to have computers. With that comes tremendous responsibility. Here are some rules to use which both facilitate learning and control computer usage.
Student Computer Use
Students will use the computer lab (area where all students have access to a computer).
Students will be instructed on the sites that will be visited for each session.
Students will have the opportunity to use the computers for research, word documents and PowerPoint presentations, other activities deemed necessary by the instructor and only for the purpose of instruction.
Material that is needed for the final project will be saved by the students on a jump drive.
Before information is printed the material must be approved by the teacher.
Teacher will monitor students use on the computer to ensure that it is used in the appropriate manner.
Student Computer Sharing (rotation)
The goal is have an area such as a computer lab where all students can have access to a computer at the same time.
Each group will be given 30 minutes to use the computer each day.
The rotation of the groups will be designed by the teacher.
Task for each day will be clearly expressed by the teacher and understood by the students prior to the team gaining computer access.
Student Computer Teaming and Team Roles
The students will be divided into groups of three or four. The groups will be multi ability.
The roles of the team will be identified by the teacher. The teacher will make sure that each role has clearly defined roles and that the students understand the responsibility of each role. Example roles are as follows:
Researcher: This person will be responsible for searching for the information that is needed for the group
Writer: This student is responsible for writing any information that is needed for the team
Organizer: This student is responsible for putting the project together.
The roles will change daily; this will ensure that all students have the opportunity to work in each role.
Task will be assigned to each role by the teacher each day; the task must be completed in order for the student to receive a participation grade for the day.
Students will be asked to evaluate each member of their group using a rubric, designed by the teacher. This information will go toward the overall grade of each student.
