This describes the long and tedious for apply for scholarships and that it like winning the lottery.

Scholarship application process from on-line to snail mail applications for Universities

From January to first week in March all I have been doing is downloading applications for scholarships for my daughter Shawn to get them filled out. There is whole learning process to doing these and there is no guarantee you will get any of them. This whole process made me realize it is like winning the lottery. All we need for her is $3,000 dollar to $5,000 scholarship and then I get her into the college of her choice. Shawn got accepted to East Stroudsburg in Pa. This was top one in her list of colleges she applied too. She wants to major in Special needs education with minor in elementary education. She is 37 in ranking of class of 151 seniors in class of 2010 in the Pottstown High School. She has GPA average 91.03 which like A.

Things you need to be aware of as you help your child to fill out the applications.

(1)    Neatness counts. Some applications on-line want you to use Upper case and lower case in your essays. Spelling is crucial and many will be kicked or disqualified for grammar mistakes. Never use all capital letters and all small letters.

(2)    On-line applications: can take from 20 minutes to fill out to over 1-1/2 to fill out like the KFC Colonel application. Some applications on-line will tell you that you need to pre-qualified in before you will know if you are lucky winner. We did not pre qualify for this one after spending over hour filling this out online. This one had like 8 semi essays that had to be filled and are limited on some 250 words and others 500 words.

(3)    Read all instructions carefully before filling out the application

(4)    The essays: for most of applications are roughly from 500 to 1000 word essays.

                                     Topics could be the following:

                          a) Why do you need this scholarship?
