School: Abusive?

Seven hours in a class room. Seems a lot like the 1800s when kids were forced to sit and work all day long.

As shocking as it may seem, some schools are trying to ban P.E. from schools. Ironic how we are trying to have a healthy generation with a lot less obese and over weight kids, but that is sort of beside the point.

Imagine school. You have 13 years of your life sat up on a desk learning about what is usually pointless stuff. Like chemistry is fairly pointless unless you of course are wanting to be a chemist then its really different, then chemistry is not pointless in school. Do you think a Poet or Geographer is going to be wanting to know about what the atomic weight of Carbon-12 is? Probably not.

My idea of school has stirred up a lot of controversy throughout my college courses. My idea is children should definitely start school at the same age now, 5 or 6. From there a kid will learn the basics. Subtraction, addition, how to write, how to read etc. All those things we use in everyday life. Now are child is 12 years old and is going to be an apprentice with someone who is in the field of something they are interested in. Also the kids will go to college like normal and receive their major in whatever they chose.

Now the reason I brought up the P.E. thing is because its the one time of the day were kids can let some energy out that was built up by sitting at a desk.

School is abusive in my opinion. I would love to hear what yours is.

They do something similar in some other countries. I can’t remember where though but I want to say Germany is one such place. By about 12 or 13 I think it is you have to pick what you want to do in life, after which you go out and specialize, learning the specific things you will need for that career.
