School Uniforms?
Why school systems should not require their students to wear uniforms.
About twenty-four percent of public schools nationwide require their students to wear school uniforms. Students should not have to wear uniforms because; cost, it removes a student’s individuality, and people will always be judged.
The cost for having a uniform can be a great deal for some families. If students only have one or two uniforms parents will have to repetitively wash and dry almost daily, this could cause a major inconvenience for the parents as well as the students. Clothes only last a certain amount of time, uniforms can be expensive and as the clothes wear down, more will have to be bought.
As growing young adults, students need to have their own individual person. Being forced to wear a certain clothing type is taking away a child’s person. People need to express their self, and many people do this through their clothing.
Clothing is definitely not the only factor that people get judged by. Students can also be judged by the way they walk, what home they have, what kind of perfume they wear and just about anything else. Wearing a uniform isn’t going to cut out harassment.
Wearing school uniforms isn’t going to change anything, and it’s pointless. Students will lose their individuality, it will have a high cost associated, and students will still face harassment. After all, would you want to wear a uniform?
