Schools Don’t Prepare Young People for Life in the Real World
Every year, thousands of school children acquire knowledge that they will never apply in future.
For example, we study geography and history in every detail and I do not understand what for. It would be much better if we spent more time studying specialized subjects because in future we would not have to pass these exams so we can use this time to prepare for our major subjects. However, do schools prepare young people for real life?
Most subjects in Russia are compulsory and anyway we have to get some basic knowledge, because there are some things that you have to know such as your language, history of your country and etc. We also need to study a lot to develop our minds and to be developed in general. Literature, maths, chemistry and physics help us a lot in this area. Moreover there are special schools, where students are allowed to choose subjects they are interested in and they want to study deeper. I think it helps us to spend more time studying these subjects.
But the important thing is the amount of information students get and the level it is taught in regular classes. Sometimes they get a lot of useless information and it makes them think that they are in a specialized class on this subject. I think that there are not enough alternative subjects such as self-defense, cooking or driving lessons, which are really supposed to help us in future.
To sum up, school is our base that we get during the childhood. Of course the quality of education depends on the school that you study in, school program, teachers and your individual features. But in fact school gives us only basic knowledge, develops our minds in general but not prepares us for real life. We do not learn at school how to cope with some problems that we can face working in team (communication problems), we have too much theory and too little practice (school should teach us to use our knowledge in particular situations by visual teaching methods and experience). School should help us in our real life and give us elementary skills that we will probably need in future (communication skills, the feeling of responsibility of every action). I don’t think schools nowadays give us these skills so I think the program of education should be developed and become really useful.

How wrong you, Ilya, and parasv are. Are you that blind to the realities of life? Without school, how are you ever going to make it out into the world?
Let’s say you get married and have kids but don’t send them to school. They might become criminals, homeless, etc.
Think about this: Would you want to go through life irresponsible, homeless, demented, and alienated? If that’s the life you want, then go live in a wild place where humans don’t live.
As for you people who agree with this deluded author, you’re just as delusional as him or her.
I know that school has its downsides. But you can’t be sheltered from the real world forever. If you never go to school or drop out, you’ll suffer the consequences later on life.

i think the objective of the topic is not to about going to school or not. Of course author says we have to go to school, but the subjects / topics are his concerns. The education system should be more practical than theoritical, which i too agree. For kids the knowledge is restricted to the academic books and not outside of it. I think every year a student should be assigned projects of various types, in group / individual / academic / sports etc arather than giving a paper to write what is the extent of their imagination. Not every student is capable to put things what he imagines / understand is capable of writing it down on paper……….
