Separate Schools vs. Co-Ed Schools

The view of a teenager as to why we should have co-ed schools.

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to have same gendered school? Most high school students believe it would be a bad thing. Students feel they would be negatively affected, the academic and extra curricular differences, and their relationships with the opposite gender.

How they would be affected is one of many negative topics. One thing students worry about being affected is having to wear uniforms. The boy’s uniforms would most likely be khaki pants and polo. The girl’s uniform would mostly be a skirt and polo. Same gendered teachers could also be a problem. Because they might be harder on the students that are their gender and push them harder. The student’s social lives would also be negatively affected. It would be harder to get a girlfriend or boyfriend. And dances would be hard to plan as well. Or would there be any dances?

Next are the academic and extra curricular differences. Would the subjects be different? Would there be some classes that only guys had that girls didn’t have, or some that just girls had and no guys had? Plays and dramas would be very different. The guys school would have to have all guys playing girl and guy parts. And the girls school would have nicer backdrops, but the girls would also have to play all the guy and girl roles too. Which then with the guys playing all the parts as well as the girls playing all the parts could bring thoughts of homosexuality. Which to the Christian students is very immorally wrong. Some people believe there would not be as many fights. But since it would be all guys and all girls there would be same gender fights, just because they would get sick of being around each other so much. However, there would not be as many fights over a boy or a girl. Some people also believe that having smaller schools would be a good thing. But it would be much more costly, they would have to buy two of everything. Which would raise our taxes twice as much as in a co-ed school district’s taxes. Sports would be different as well. The schools would not have as many sports. The sports would be split up between the two schools, which could be upsetting for some students who want to play a sport but are not allowed because it is for the other school. Cheerleaders would be very different. Would there be any? How would there be any cheerleaders for the all- guys school?
