Sexaulity Education

Sex Education and its necessity towards our youth in this modern era. It’s essential to teach sexuality education to our youth.

The sexuality education is making gradual inroad into society and school systems. In regards with this many people still believe that sexuality education promotes sexuality activities thus oppose programmes needed to make people to be informed and having full information on it. The government, counties and society needs to introduce sexual education for them to be aware of moral decadence preponderance of reckless sexually relationship involving adolescence and youth. This is in addition to high prevalence of sexually transmitted infections, including the dreaded HIV.

From the World Health organization (W.H.O) definition of adolescent person as one who is between the age range of 10 – 19 years. According to W.H.O. the difference between adolescence and youth as adolescence is between the age range of 10 – 19 and youth is between 15 – 24 years. “expert said that during the period of adolescence, the individuals is the process of learning and testing themselves, so that they can achieve the attitudes, beliefs and skills needed to be and adult and thereby been effective o the society. This will help in the widespread of immoral sexual conduct by youths or students especially females who mature earlier than males. “ we have responsibility to face this challenge and hold the bull by the horns, with this our youths can no longer be taken for granted and the will know what to do.”

The factors responsible for this early sexual activity include cultural such as marriages, increased exposure to media information on sex (pornographic films and literature. Social-economic factors like poverty which make prostitution attractive to young girls and reduced age of menstruation which is mostly suffered by adolescence. Note as they enter puberty, they show interest in so many things including sex. Which most of them are not ready for the challenges and society has not helped much because of cultural attitude to sex. This has resulted to unwanted and increased high rate of abortions.

“ W.H.O., estimated that worldwide, one out of 20 adolescents contact a sexually transmitted diseases each year. Also people in their 20s are HIV positive which is cause by high level of ignorance among adolescence. Education has become inevitable so it can be use to reduce the risk of teenage pregnancy, abortion and sexually transmitted diseases, HIV/AIDS and death.

It can be recommended that teacher need to be trained for sexual education to improve youths knowledge, attitudes and behaviors on it. Also tutors themselves need to be trained first to enable them examine their own attitudes towards sexuality, understand the content they are teaching, learn participatory teaching skill, again confidence to discuss sensitive and controversial topics.

The whole idea of sex education is that people fall victim of what they do not understand. So if adolescence have the full knowledge of the course and consequences of sex they will not get pregnant and become teenage mothers.
