but the problem is the school's budget. the teachers shouldn't be responsible for the students' health and fitness, the parents should be. by making PE opptional in schools, the students who really like PE and would like to major in sports can take PE in school and get help from professional teachers. The rest of the ppl can use that time for more acedemic stuuff at school and do PE at home. it's time eficient and cost efficient!!!O.O
also, the chances are if you throw 30 ppl in a gym and ask them to play dodgeball/basketball, the non-atheletic people will never get to touch the ball while the ball hoggers get all the marks. (... 'tis the sad way of life) So, this proves that mandetory PE, does not, in fact, improve all the students' fittness. On the other hand, ppl who willingly take PE, will chase after the ball happily..

I agree that exercising should be mandatory as it is important to health. PE teachers can easily be mindful to the difference in fitness of some exceptions. However, I do not see how dehydration is a problem because it's natural for PE teachers to constantly advice students to hydrate themselves. And in fact, conditions like asthma can be improved from exercise. As for playing games, it could be optional but exercising through games is where the fun generally lies.

I think the exercise part should be mandatory, but the games part could be optional. Not everyone likes to play baseball and sucks at it, so they can go play basketball if they want to, or nothing at all. It wasn't "mandatory" to play the games in my P.E. but everybody absolutely had to do the exercises.
